Read about our Sports Day

The pupils in our school are encouraged to participate in any sport they find attractive. Basketball and soccer are the two games played during lunch breaks. Our school enters a football team each year in the Cumann na mBunscol leagues. Boys and girls take part and we have had some success over the years, winning our league on five occasions. The local schools combine to enter a team in the hurling league and some of our pupils enjoy taking part.

Since September we have played football games; had a basketball league; played tag rugby and did indoor athletics. Here are some photos of our day competing against other schools in Tullamore.

Football
Each year we enter our team in the Cumann na mBunscol leagues. We trained since January in Mountbolus and we also had a coach, Lisa Flaherty, coming into the school for eight weeks. We enjoyed all the games and skills. We competed in the foofball league, winning a few games and having a lot of fun.

Basketball League in progress - great fun for everyone with team Waterford just winning out .

<< Each year, during the last term, children from first to sixth class go to Clara for swimming lessons. This is very popular and each and every child can swim confidently by the time they leave the school.

Perhaps the most popular sport with the pupils is badminton. Thanks to the great work of Judy Bryant, children get the chance to play every week in Mountbolus Hall and to represent their club in competitions around the country.    >>
