| The
Official Opening
Ard
Aoibhinn was opened in December 1992. The elderly moved into the houses
in May that year.
The president, Mrs. Mary Robinson, came down and opened it. Mrs Brigid
Daly thought of the idea to get the president to open Ard Aoibhinn. Her
sister Mrs Kathleen Mullen wrote to Mary Robinson.
She wrote back straight away and said that she would be delighted.
There was great excitement getting ready for the president’s visit.
They made banners and they also got flags and they tidied up.
When Mary Robinson opened Ard Aoibhinn, there was a guard of honour and
school children from the parish all came and waved flags to welcome her.
They had the Mountbolus Pipe Band playing music. RTE were there filming
it for the news.
Lots of people came to the opening of Ard Aoibhinn and they were all delighted
when the president said that they had done a great job building these
houses.
